THE FIELD OF BLOOD

Acts 1:18-19
(With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms: “‘May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,’ and, “‘May another take his place of leadership.’ »(Acts 1:18-20)

There are places that stand as silent witnesses to human tragedy.
The Field of Blood mentioned in the book of Acts is one of them.
It was bought with the wages of betrayal — the thirty pieces of silver Judas Iscariot received for delivering the Lord of life.

This field, called Akeldama, bears a name heavy with shame and sorrow.
It reminds the people of Jerusalem of the terrible price of treachery.
The money of sin never produces joy or peace; it always ends in ruin and death.

Judas tried to undo his act by returning the silver, but guilt was too strong for him.
His field became a symbol of what sin always leaves behind — emptiness, loneliness, and death.
Truly, the Scripture is fulfilled:
“The wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23)

Yet behind this tragedy lies a greater truth: God always fulfills His Word.
Even human failure cannot stop His plan.
The Psalms had already foretold Judas’s fall:
“Let his dwelling be desolate… and let another take his place.”
When a man fails, God’s purpose still continues.

The Field of Blood speaks to us today.
It warns us against trading our loyalty to God for temporary gain.
It reminds us that whatever is gained through sin will ultimately destroy us.

But there is another field — the hill of Calvary, where another blood was shed.
The blood of Judas cried out guilt and despair,
but the blood of Jesus cries out mercy and redemption.
The field of Judas became a place of death, but the field of Jesus became the ground of eternal life.

There are therefore two fields:
The field of betrayal, marked by sin and death.
The field of redemption, marked by grace and life.
One ends in despair; the other begins with forgiveness.

On which field are you building your life today?

PRAYER:
Lord Jesus,
Keep me from selling my faith for the world’s illusions.
Purify my heart and make it sincere before You.
Where sin has left its stain, may Your blood speak a better word.
Turn my field of shame into a field of grace, Amen.
