WHEN EVIL BECOMES NORMAL

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,
who put darkness for light and light for darkness.” (Isaiah 5:20)

We live in an age where sin no longer shocks the conscience.
What God condemns in His Word, modern society excuses in the name of freedom, progress, or tolerance.

Serious sins such as lying, adultery, revenge, corruption, gossip, and pride are no longer viewed as wrong but as “human weaknesses.”

Society has changed the words to soften the wounds:

Lying becomes diplomacy;

Adultery becomes emotional confusion;

Revenge becomes personal justice;

Pride becomes self-esteem;

Greed becomes ambition.

Yet, what man excuses, God still judges.
Sin doesn’t lose its power because people normalize it.
Unconfessed and unrepented sin remains destructive — personally and collectively.

1. When Lies Replace Truth

Lying has become a social survival tool.
People lie to succeed, to please others, to defend themselves, or to avoid shame.
But Jesus said:
“The devil is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44)

Every lie told distances us from God, because God is Truth (John 14:6).
Lies destroy trust, corrupt justice, and build societies on hypocrisy.

Practical Example:
A company that deceives clients to make profit, a student who cheats on exams, a leader who falsifies reports — all of these may seem minor, but together they form the foundation of moral decay.

“The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy.” (Proverbs 12:22)

2. When Adultery Becomes a Trend

Once considered shameful, adultery is now glamorized.
Movies celebrate forbidden love, marriages crumble for fleeting passions, and faithfulness is mocked.
Yet God clearly said:
“You shall not commit adultery.” (Exodus 20:14)

Adultery doesn’t just destroy marriages — it wounds the soul, breaks trust, and leaves emotional scars that often pass to the next generation.
The world tolerates it, but God calls it spiritual treason. (Malachi 2:14)

Example:
A couple that chooses to remain faithful in a world of infidelity reflects the glory of God amid moral darkness.

3. When Revenge Replaces Forgiveness

Forgiveness is seen today as weakness.
Society glorifies retaliation, humiliation, and personal vengeance.
But Scripture teaches:
“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath.” (Romans 12:19)

Revenge never heals pain; it feeds it.
Those who seek revenge become slaves to bitterness, while those who forgive walk in freedom.
The true glory of a believer is not in revenge, but in resembling Jesus, who forgave even on the cross.

4. When Pride Silences Humility

In today’s world, pride is mistaken for confidence.
We are told to “believe we’re better,” to “never let anyone put us down.”
But the Bible says:

“God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

Pride shuts the door to grace.
It makes a person self-reliant and spiritually blind.
Many failures, divisions, and broken relationships have their roots in unrecognized pride.

5. When Greed Replaces Compassion

Love of money has become the god of this world.
People are valued not for who they are, but for what they possess.
Jesus warned:
“You cannot serve both God and Mammon.” (Matthew 6:24)

Greed breeds injustice, corruption, and envy.
It kills compassion and feeds violence, because everyone wants more — no matter the cost.
A society that worships money can no longer fear God.

6. The Spiritual and Social Consequences

When evil becomes normal, society loses its moral compass.

Conscience falls asleep,

Justice becomes corrupt,

Families break down,

Peace disappears.

“When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan.” (Proverbs 29:2)

This is not merely a moral crisis — it is a spiritual crisis.
Accepted sin becomes culture, and a culture of sin attracts God’s judgment upon nations.

7. The Call to Repentance

But there is hope.
God has not changed, and His mercy still reaches those who return to Him.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Transformation doesn’t start in institutions — it begins in hearts.
A nation can be healed when men and women choose to walk in truth, live faithfully, forgive sincerely, and pursue justice.
Then, the glory of God returns to the land.

PRAYER:
Lord, open our eyes to see sin as You see it.
Deliver us from the deception of calling evil good.
Awaken our conscience and restore our fear of You.
Give us courage to live by Your truth, even when the world forgets it.
Let our lives shine as lights in this dark generation.
Bring back Your presence, Your justice, and Your glory among Your people.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
