We don’t associate with just anyone, because some people are cursed and others are naturally evil.
A man of God came to King Amaziah and said to him:
* »My lord king, do not let the Israelite troops march with you, for Yahweh is not with Israel or with any of the Ephraimites. For however valiantly you act in war, God will bring you down before the enemy… »*(2Chronicles 25:7-8)
At that time, Israel was under a curse, so it was dangerous for Judah to team up with them for any campaign at the risk of defeat.
Indeed, some people, if we associate with them or team up with them, can cause our downfall because of the curses that pursue them, or because God necessarily wants to punish them.
The most eloquent example is that of the boat which almost capsized with all the passengers because of Jonah who was on board, fleeing God at Tarsia. (Jonas 1,2)
There are also those people who raise themselves as a real obstacle against the elevation of others or against the common good, because of their selfishness or their jealousy.
An organization that has such people cannot evolve and is even threatened with extinction.
Before we build relationships, we need to ask Jesus to tell us who we can associate with or campaign with.
PRAYER:
Lord our God, give us wisdom to find people with whom we can associate for your glory.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
Amen.
