Before He was taken up into heaven, Jesus Christ said to the assembled apostles:
« … and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. »(Acts 1:8)
Although He said this to the apostles, this message applies to every Christian.
In a court of law, witnesses are only asked to say what they have seen and heard about a person to charge or discharge him.
Although you have not seen him with your own eyes, you have heard or read about what he did.
In addition to being called to tell others what you have learned about Jesus so that they may know Him and welcome Him into their lives, you must also bear witness to what He has done in your life and show in your daily life that you are in him and He is in you. That is true witness.
In 2 Corinthians 3:2-3, the apostle Paul writes:
« You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Chris not, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. »*
In this passage, Paul explains that the lives of believers reflect their faith in Christ.
People can « read » our lives and see the work of God in us, just as one would read a letter or a book. This underscores the idea that our actions, words, and character testify to what God is doing in us.
This is a beautiful image that shows that our lives tell a story, that of our relationship with God in Jesus.
This is why Paul, six times, used the story of his life to proclaim the Gospel.
May God help us to be true witnesses of Jesus always and everywhere.
