God said to Abraham:
“Every male among you shall be circumcised” (Genesis 17:10).
This sign marked the covenant and belonging to His people. Jesus Himself was circumcised (Luke 2:21), not out of necessity, but to fulfill the law and identify with Israel.
Yet, external circumcision was only a symbol. God desired a devoted heart:
“Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer.” (Deuteronomy 10:16).
Through Jesus Christ, the new covenant is fulfilled. Baptism becomes the visible sign of this inner transformation:
“You were circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands… having been buried with Him in baptism.” (Colossians 2:11-12)
Thus, baptism replaces circumcision as the covenant sign, available to all believers.
So the question remains: Are you circumcised?
Not in the flesh, but in your heart.
Is your heart purified, separated from sin, and fully devoted to God?
For today, true circumcision is the circumcision of the heart by the Spirit.
PRAYER:
Lord, circumcise my heart by Your Spirit.
Purify my thoughts, remove what grieves You, and make me wholly devoted to You.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
