DON’T REJOICE IN OTHERS’ MISFORTUNE

The Bible clearly teaches that we should not rejoice in the misfortune of others.
Here are some key verses that emphasize this principle:

« Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice, or the Lord will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from them. »(Proverbs 24:17-18)
This passage warns against rejoicing over someone else’s difficulties, even if they are an enemy.

« Have I rejoiced at the destruction of my enemy, or exulted when evil befell him? No, I have not allowed my mouth to sin by invoking a curse against their life. »(Job 31:29-30)
Job maintains that he never took pleasure in his enemy’s suffering, showing a righteous attitude.

« Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. »(Romans 12:15)
This encourages empathy, urging us to share in others’ joys and sorrows rather than taking pleasure in their troubles.

« Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. »(1 Corinthians 13:6)
True love does not rejoice in the misfortune of others, but seeks what is just and good.

In summary, the Bible teaches that rejoicing in others’ misfortunes is wrong. Instead, God calls us to be compassionate and loving, even toward those who may have wronged us.

PRAYER:
Lord our God, give us the strength to always sympathize with our enemies instead of rejoicing in their misfortunes.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray , amen.
