When the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery among the people to be stoned, Jesus said to them:
« Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. »(John 8:7)
Among those who wanted to stone this woman, there were her sexual partners, her accomplices and even people whom she took for her friends, but none of them were lenient towards her, had it not been their conscience which accused and urged them to withdraw one by one.
Judging and condemning a neighbor caught in sin is another way of throwing stones at him.
However, our conscience accuses us of committing the same sins as our neighbor and even the most serious or the most shameful.
We shouldn’t dare to throw even a single stone at him!
Leave judgment and condemnation to God alone.
PRAYER:
Lord our God, help us to no longer dare to judge and condemn others.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
Amen.
