Did you know that Jonah refused to go to Nineveh when God sent him there, because he wanted the Ninevites to be punished and stricken with the wrath of God?
« …I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. »(Jonah 4:2)
Indeed, Jonah believed that if he refused to go to Nineveh and the Ninevites continued in their wickedness, God would inevitably strike them down. But the grace of God wanted them to repent.
However, just because Jonah wanted God to strike Nineveh does not mean that God absolutely had to strike Nineveh.
So it is not also because we despise certain people that God despises them.
Just because we reject certain people does not mean that God must also reject them.
Just because we wish others harm doesn’t mean God has to harm them.
No, God is not like us!
And curiously, no one can influence Him or attain to his grace.
PRAYER:
Our Father who art in heaven, grant us to seek to imitate You.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
