“There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.”(Matthew 28:2)
There was a heavy stone—symbol of finality and despair.
For men, it was over: the tomb was sealed, and hope was gone. But God had not spoken His last word. When everything seems blocked, He Himself comes down to roll the stone away.
That stone represents everything that imprisons our lives: fear, shame, failure, wounds from the past, or sins that hold us captive. But on the morning of resurrection, God acted with power. What men had closed, He opened. What was lost, He restored. What was dead, He revived.
Rolling back the stone was more than a gesture—it was the manifestation of God’s power to set free. Where you saw a wall, He made a door. Where you saw an ending, He began a new story.
Yet the angel did more: he sat on the stone.
This is a powerful symbol of victory.
In the Bible, to sit is to reign, to rest after triumph. It means that God does not only deliver you—He gives you authority over what once oppressed you.
What once crushed you now becomes your throne.
What made you cry now becomes your testimony.
Where you once lay bound, God now calls you to sit in peace and victory.
Stop seeing the stone as an obstacle—it is a sign: God has rolled away what blocked your life, and He invites you to sit on it.
Don’t live under fear, shame, or the weight of your past. The Lord says:
“What defeated you yesterday is now under your feet.”
Yes, Jesus is alive—and because He lives, you can live above all that once held you down.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, thank You for rolling back the stone that closed my life.
Thank You for turning my chains into testimony, and my wounds into signs of victory.
Seat me in Your peace, above my struggles and my fears.
Let what once crushed me become the place where I proclaim that You are alive and powerful.
Amen.
