HEAVEN DOES NOT HELP THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES — IT HELPS THOSE WHO TRUST IN GOD”

« I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. » (Psalm 121:1-2)

There is a phrase people often repeat as if it came from God:
“Help yourself, and heaven will help you.”
It sounds wise, but it does not reflect the teaching of Scripture.
The Bible shows that divine help does not flow from our ability to manage on our own, but from our willingness to depend fully on God.

Jesus stated plainly:
“Apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5)

This means God does not wait for us to try everything in our own strength before He steps in. Instead, He wants us to begin with Him, trusting Him and relying on His grace.
The psalmist did not look to himself for strength. He looked upward and declared:
“My help comes from the LORD…”

God’s help comes to the humble, not the self-sufficient.
Paul understood this when he wrote:
“My power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

When we acknowledge our limits, God reveals His unlimited strength. He is not our last option after we have exhausted our own ideas.
He is meant to be our first support, our source, and our foundation.

“Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this.” (Psalm 37:5)

Yes, God blesses our efforts, but only when those efforts are rooted in faith, submission, and obedience.
Heaven does not respond to those who rely on themselves, but to those who lift their eyes to God and say:
“Lord, I need You.”

PRAYER:
Lord my God,
I acknowledge today that I can do nothing without You.
I lay down my self-reliance and place my trust in Your strength.
Guide me, empower me, and work in my life according to Your will.
Amen.
