Nothing is more dangerous in the life of a Christian than not knowing who he is in Christ.
Indeed, when we do not know who we are, we also ignore our rights.
The Bible tells me that I am a child of God (John 1:20) and that I am an ambassador of God on earth (2 Corinthians 5:20).
Those who do not know me well, do not know that I am a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17), that although they know me differently, I am justified by God (Romans 5:1), that I am also holy (Ephesians 1:1), a saint of God (1 Corinthians 6:11).
That is who I am.
And you, who are you?
Because I am a child of God, not only am I a god (Psalm 82:6), and an heir of God with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17), but also, I am a king and a priest (Revelation 1:6).
This means that while I reign, I also have a priestly mission of service.
As a king, I have spiritual authority and power over the earth.
A king exercises authority over his kingdom, and in the same way, believers are called to spiritually reign over their lives and the circumstances around them.
This refers to the idea that, through Jesus Christ, I have been restored to a position of authority over sin, darkness, and the forces of evil (Read Romans 5:17).
As a priest, I have the responsibility to serve God, worship Him, and intercede for others.
A priest in the Old Testament acted as a mediator between God and men, offering sacrifices and praying for the people.
In a similar way, believers are called to worship God, offer their lives as living sacrifices, and intercede in prayer.
These are my rights and powers.
What are yours?
PRAYER:
Lord our God, grant that we may be conscious of who we are in Christ.
In the precious name of your Son Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
