INGRATITUDE ERASES THE MEMORY OF THE HEART

Sometimes one single failure makes the human heart forget years of goodness.
A small disappointment, a misunderstood word — and suddenly, all the good of yesterday is gone.
This is one of the greatest weaknesses of the heart: ingratitude erases the memory of love.

“Love keeps no record of wrongs… it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (1 Corinthians 13:5-7)

We often judge harshly those who could not meet our expectations.
We forget their sacrifices, their prayers, and their faithfulness.
Yet the Word says:
“Do not forget the kindness of the one who has done you good.” (Sirach 7:34)

Biblical examples:

Israel saw God’s mighty hand in Egypt but forgot Him in the desert.
“They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt.” (Psalm 106:21)

Peter denied Jesus, but Jesus looked at him with mercy and restored him.
“The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.”” (Luke 22:61)

Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, yet he forgave them and saved their lives.
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good…” (Genesis 50:20)

True love does not fade because of failure; it remembers the good.
Faithful friendship does not turn away in shame but restores and uplifts.

“A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” (Proverbs 17:17)

PRAYER:
Lord,
Teach me to remember the good I have received, to love beyond faults, and to stay faithful when others fail.
Make my heart a place of gratitude and forgiveness,
like Yours.
Amen.
