It was on the Sabbath day, the day of rest when Jesus healed the paralyzed man at the pool of Bethesda (see John 5: 1-16).
It was also on the Sabbath day, when Jesus healed the oppressed woman with a spirit of infirmity (see Luke 13: 10-13).
The day when Jesus healed the man with a withered hand (see Luke 6: 6-10) was the Sabbath day.
All these three have struggled for so long to get up, to try to remedy their situation, but to no avail. And they were so frustrated with trying to improve themselves that by the time they met Jesus, they probably had already stopped trying to change their situations.
It was then that Jesus came and extended his offer to right the situation.
And when they accepted His offer, they received the miracles they had sought for so long.
We, too, may have struggled to get back on our feet or get out of the problem that weighed heavily on us.
We tried to do everything we could, hoping it would be something, but we’ve been frustrated many times.
As it is no coincidence that all three received their miracles on the Sabbath, the day of rest of the Jews, we can also, this Sunday, wait for our miracle.
The Word of God says:
« So there remains therefore a rest for the people of God. » (Hebrews 4: 9)
The day we stop working and striving and rest in the finished work of Christ is the day we receive our miracle.
Only, God wants us to stop struggling and accept the offer he proposes to change our situation.
So, let’s be quiet and receive our miracle!
PRAYER:
Lord God, always remind us to rest in Christ to receive miracles.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
Amen.
