During the holidays, it is worth noting that people have the habit of making speculations if we observe those whom they invite and the way in which they welcome them.
Jesus said:
« When you give dinner or supper, do not invite your friends, brothers, parents or wealthy neighbors, lest they in turn invite you and give back what they have received from you. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind; and you will be happy that they cannot do the same to you, for that will be returned to the resurrection of the just. »(Luke 14: 12-14)
Indeed, for materialistic reasons, we usually invite the rich and great personalities but we pay very little attention to the poor and the disabled.
It is true that, before thinking of others, we invite our family members and close neighbors, but, we prefer to grant places of honor rather to those who, among them, are well dressed, clean, « presentable » « , and wealthy, with the hope that they can return the favor.
But in reality, although we ensure that nothing is lacking and seek their well-being and their enjoyment, the satisfaction that we experience by it would not be enough for us if, in turn, our hosts did not return the favor in all points.
Basically, what we do for them, we do not do it because we love them, no, we do it only for selfish reasons. It’s just selfishness and speculation, it’s not love.
PRAYER:
Lord our God, teach us to love and do everything without speculation.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
Amen.
