The Word of God exhorts us here to seek or pursue two things: peace with all (men), and peace with God (holiness).
Without this, no one will see the Lord.
« Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. »(Hebrews 12:14)
The first thing relates to our relationships with others: We are exhorted to live in peace with everyone. It means that we have to try to avoid anything that can cause conflict and dissension between us and others.
Rather, we must bring in all, a spirit of humility and gentleness that avoids the occasion of irritation and rustling and soothes quarrels.
The second thing relates to our relationship with God: We are exhorted to lead a life that pleases God. It means to avoid doing evil and all that can provoke the wrath of God.
And indeed, if we submit ourselves perfectly to God and walk with Him, which means that we are at peace with God, it will be easy for us to live in peace with all.
In fact, happy people are curiously easy-going!
If we enjoy in our souls the communion with the God of peace, we are happy, and this happiness makes us easy to be gentle, benevolent, full of support towards others.
However, let us remember that this peace with all is not obtained at the expense of holiness, at the expense of our relationship with God.
It is simultaneously that we have to pursue these two things: peace with friends and peace with God.
PRAYER:
Lord our God, give us to live in peace with our brothers and with You.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
