HOW ARE YOU, MY BROTHER ?

After Absalom’s revolt, David decides to put Amasa at the head of his army to replace Joab (2 Samuel 19:13).
Joab does not support the competition as much as Amasa had previously chosen the camp of Absalom and had been at the head of the army of Israel.

When Amasa came before the men of Judah to summon them, as King David had commanded him, Joab was there. Joab then said to Amasa:
« How are you, my brother? »(2 Samuel 20:9)
And with his right hand he seized Amasa’s beard to kiss him, and at that very moment, with his left hand, he plunged Amasa with his dagger into his belly, and his intestines spilled out on the ground, without being stabbed again. Amasa died.

Joab’s attitude towards Amasa testifies to the treachery that is in him, and his wickedness.
We should avoid such people in our relationships and ask God to keep us from them.
If, beyond our control, we find ourselves in the presence of wicked people or people whose morality is questionable, let us be careful.
It is better to avoid bad people in our lives than to maintain false hypocritical relationships with them, so as not to fall into their traps.

PRAYER:
Our Father who art in heaven, keep us from wicked people.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.

Joab dit alors a Amasa:
« Te portes-tu bien, mon frère? »(2 Samuel 20:9)

FRUITS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

One of the first purposes of the Holy Spirit when it comes into the life of a Christian is to transform him.
« The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. »(Galatians 5:22-23)
The fruit of the Spirit is what God wants to see manifest in our lives, and with the help of the Holy Spirit.

1. Love:
It is the Holy Spirit, who pours love into our hearts (Romans 5:5).
He is the perfection of our soul, because he unites us to God who is our last end and to our neighbours.
2. Joy (in God):
It is a disposition of the soul, by which we rejoice in all the perfections of God and all the goods which we know have been given to our neighbor and to us for the glory of God.
Rejoice in the Lord always (Philippians 4:4).
3. Peace (of the Lord):
It is the tranquility of the soul, it makes us peaceful ourselves, by the empire it gives us over the passions which disturb our soul. The peace of the Lord is a good, which surpasses all feeling.
4. Patience:
It is a virtue that makes us bear with resignation and courage all the evils of this life, however great and long they may be.
5. Kindness:
It is a quality of the soul, which leads us to always do what is right. It makes us attentive and exact in all our duties, fervent and devout towards God, tender, affable, sincere, charitable towards our neighbour.
6. Goodness:
It is a good disposition of the soul which leads us to do good to our fellow-creatures, makes us sensitive to their sorrows and their embarrassments, and urges us to seek the means of extricating them.
7. Faithfulness:
It consists in candid fidelity, without mistrust, without subterfuge, without artifice, to any contracted commitment. This virtue is the basis of social relations.
8. Gentleness:
This virtue impels us to render service to our brothers, to sympathize with their afflictions, as if they were our own disgraces, to help them promptly, as far as is in our power and without listening to our reluctance and our delicacy. (Acts 10.38)
9. Self-control:
It is an austere virtue, which makes us resist the attraction of the passions and all carnal desires.

PRAYER :
Our Father who art in heaven, grant us to bear fruit of all the fruits of the Holy Spirit for your glory.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.

THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

When the Spirit of the Lord rests upon a person, it becomes to that person: « the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. »(Isaiah 11:2)

1. Wisdom:
Wisdom makes us taste divine things. It enhances our blissful knowledge of God and of all that finds its purpose in God and proceeds from God.
2. Understanding:
It perfects the understanding of the mysteries of faith.
3. Counsel:
The gift of counsel helps to judge well of the will of God at each moment and for each one, enabling us to advise others.
4. Power:
The gift of power makes us firm in faith, constant in struggle and persevering and faithful in undertakings.
5. Knowledge:
The gift of knowledge makes us understand what created things are and must be, according to the divine purposes of creation and elevation to the supernatural order.
6. The fear of the LORD:
The fear of God makes us hate all sin, and imprints in our hearts the spirit of adoration and a deep and sincere humility.

PRAYER :
Our Father who art in heaven, rest your Holy Spirit upon us, that we may be transformed.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
