Israel as a chosen people had to win their fights and struggles that were under the banner of a promise.
However, Israel had to submit to a discipline: to sanctify themselves and to rid themselves of an object which has been put under the curse of destruction.
* »Get up, sanctify the people and say, « Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, since Yahweh, the God of Israel, declares: The curse of destruction has now fallen on you, Israel; you will not be able to stand up to your enemies, until you have rid yourselves of that object which has been put under the curse of destruction. »*(Joshua 7:13)
Likewise, any child of God will always succeed in whatever he undertakes if he is disciplined.
Discipline is a quality of the children of God, and our discipline is to regularly sanctify ourselves and submit to the will of God.
In reality, lack of discipline is an obstacle to blessing a child of God: Most of the time, failure is due to unconfessed and unrepented sin. This is why God told Joshua to sanctify the people before resuming the conquest because sin would prevent the Holy Spirit from working on their behalf.
When God is there we succeed, when he goes away we run to failure.
It is in discipline that the promise of God is fulfilled.
PRAYER:
Lord our God, help us to be disciplined people.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
