Saying THANK YOU is a small word, but it carries great power. It is a sign of recognition and humility.
Too often, we receive blessings from others – and even from God – without taking the time to simply say: THANK YOU.
In the Gospel of Luke 17:11-19, Jesus healed ten lepers. But only one came back to glorify God and express his gratitude. Then Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?”(v.17 & 18) This episode reminds us that gratitude is rare, but precious in the eyes of God.
When someone does us good, they do not have to. Nothing obliges them to extend a hand, to give us their time, or to share their resources. It is grace. And grace calls for gratitude.
The Bible exhorts us:
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”(1 Thessalonians 5:18)
“Praise the LORD, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.” (Psalm 103:2)
Saying thank you keeps us humble.
It reminds us that we are not self-sufficient and that we daily benefit from the goodness of God and of people.
Gratitude transforms our hearts, strengthens human relationships, and above all, honors God who is the source of all good.
Today, let us pause for a moment.
Let us think of those who have prayed for us, helped us, supported us.
Let us think of God who gives us life, health, and peace. And let us say with sincerity: THANK YOU.
PRAYER:
Lord, forgive me for my forgetfulness and ingratitude. Help me to always recognize Your blessings and to say THANK YOU to those through whom You bless me. Amen.
