Of the three enemies of man, namely the flesh, the world and the devil, the devil is our common enemy with God.
He hated God before hating us, he rebelled against God before inciting us to rebel against Him(our God) and he wants to distance us from God our Father.
In the Bible, « devil » means « the one who divides ». He is also called Satan, Beelzebub, the Evil One. He attacks us in our flesh and uses the men he has managed to deceive to lure us into the world he rules, in order to manipulate us into submission to love and to do evil and sin.
This is why the word of God tells us:
« Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. »(1 Peter 5:8-9)
And indeed, we can resist him by Christ who strengthens us.
If we resist him with the weapons of God (Ephesians 6:11-18), the devil does not resist us, he flees us:
« Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. »(James 4:7)
PRAYER :
Our Father in heaven, we thank you that Jesus has delivered us from Satan’s world system. Give us the strength to always resist the temptations of the devil.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
