It is to Jericho that God leads his people then on the march to conquer the promised land. To do this, God communicates to him a strategy to overthrow this city reputed to be impregnable because of its disproportionate fortress: to walk around the city of Jericho seven times.
Joshua had given this order to the people: « Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout! »(Joshua 6:10)
After circling the city seven times, Joshua commanded the people: « Shout! For the LORD has given you the city! »(Joshua 6:16)
And the wall collapsed.
To walk around the city of Jericho seven times was nothing for a people who had walked for forty years in the desert.
Only, this time, it was a question of walking in silence, that means walking without complaining, without lamenting, without murmuring, quite simply trusting in God!
Do we know how to be silent in the middle of a fight?
And yet, if we knew how to be silent, our God would bring down before us the walls that prevent us from entering into his promises, into our promised land.
PRAYER:
Our Father who art in heaven, help us to be silent while waiting for the victory you have in store for us.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
