A patient was visited by his parents. The patient was on oxygen and therefore could not speak.
While they were standing beside his bed, the patient took a sheet and wrote a note then gave it to one of the parents.
This parent, without reading the message, put it in his pocket and they continued their conversation.
Why didn’t he immediately read the message?
It is surely because He did not consider this patient, he believed that his message was not important. He may have believed that the patient wanted to ask him for money, for example!
And yet it is written in the Bible:
« Let each of you, instead of considering his own interests, also consider those of others. »(Philippians 2:4)
A few minutes later, the patient died.
Later, the parent took the slip of paper to read what the patient had written on it. Imagine what! Sadly, on the paper it was written…
« Please move away a bit, you’re stepping on my oxygen hose. I can’t breathe. You’re killing me. »
Lesson:
Do you postpone reading a posted message?
Or are you ignoring a call because you are already close to the person calling you?
To consider the interests others could be useful to you or someone else… especially at a critical time.
PRAYER:
Our Father who art in heaven, grant us to always consider the interests of others, instead of considering our own interests only.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
