After throwing Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, hands tied, into a fiery furnace, King Nebuchadnezzar and his advisers hoped that these three men would soon be charred.
And now they were surprised to find them safe and sound.
The king exclaimed to his advisers:
* »Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire? … Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of gods. »*(Daniel 3:24-25)
There are then two questions to ask:
1. *Who was this fourth person?*
2. *Who cut their ties?*
By the way, this fourth person who was with these three men, was none other than Jesus, the son of the living God who had once said: * »I shall be with you … Should you walk through fire, you will not suffer, and the flame will not burn you. »*(Isaiah 43:2)
They were then safe and sound because the fire could not burn them and *the flame only served to loosen them from their bonds.*
What does that mean?
It simply means that the misfortunes and trials we go through cannot destroy us no matter how strong they are, if Jesus is with us.
No, they rather destroy the ties that bind us to evil, including, among others, stupidity, ignorance, unconsciousness, spiritual weakness, and so on.
And so, we always come out of trial and misfortune not only safe and sound, but also stronger and stronger than before.
PRAYER:
Lord our God, grant us faith like that of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
Amen.
