The prophet Micah answers to this question for us:
« He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. »(Micah 6:8)
God wants the heart of man and not vain forms or ceremonies.
We find the same thought in Isaiah 1:16-17: « Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. »
It separates the soul from all those vain forms that can not take away sins, to bring it to the consciousness of his state before God.
To be approved by Him, on the basis of man’s responsibility, only three things are required which exclude all external appearances, and require a real state of the heart, in accordance with the heart of God. These three things are:
1° To do what is right: activity in « works of justice »;
2° To love goodness: the state of a heart that takes pleasure in good;
3° To walk with God in humility, free from all pride, because to walk with God is to be his companion, like Enoch, in a humble dependence on Him.
PRAYER:
Lord our God, give us to do whatever you want us to do.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
Amen.
