When a person is elevated—through promotion, position, or wealth—friendships seem to multiply.
Faces smile, words flatter, and people gather around.
Yet Scripture warns us with clarity:
« Riches adds many friends. But from the pauper, even those whom he had become separated. »(Proverbs 19:4)
This verse reveals that some relationships are built on interest rather than genuine love.
Accepting false friends often leads to illusion, poor decisions, and deeper loneliness when circumstances change.
Wisdom calls us not to root our identity in status, but in God; to discern relationships over time; and to cherish those who remain faithful in both abundance and hardship.
For while people change with seasons, God never changes:
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
PRAYER:
Lord, grant us discernment to recognize true relationships and a humble heart in every season. Amen.
