Do you know the opposite of speaking well? It’s cursing.
When our Lord cursed the fig tree, what did he say? Did he say, « I curse you, fig tree »?
No, He simply said, « Let no one ever eat of you again » (Mark 11:14).
And the next day that fig tree withered » (Mark 11:21).
In reality, the negative words spoken are equivalent to a curse. We must therefore avoid them for our good and for the good of others.
* »Yahweh, mount a guard over my mouth, a guard at the door of my lips. »*(Psalm 141:3)
Many times people don’t realize that they are unintentionally cursing themselves and the people around them with the constant flow of negative words that they speak about themselves and others.
Words of defeat, anger, bitterness, and complaint are toxic.
We need to flush out the negative words in our lives with the words of God’s grace, love and power!
Let’s also take note that when Jesus spoke to the fig tree, it did not wither away instantly, it first dried up at its very roots before death reached the leaves.
So don’t get discouraged when we speak to our challenge and nothing seems to be happening.
Let’s believe that we are speaking directly to the root of the problem and that the outward manifestation of our faith is on its way!
PRAYER:
Lord our God, help us to know how to watch over the door of our lips.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
Amen.
