THE CROSS, SYMBOL OF GOD’S LOVE

Originally, the cross was not an invention of God, it was an invention of the Greeks which was later adopted by the Romans to punish evildoers by making them suffer severely. But mysteriously, our God will use it at Golgotha ​​to save the world from sin and eternal death. This is how the cross became a symbol of God’s love.

« Here they crucified him, and with him two others–one on each side and Jesus in the middle. »(John 19:18)

On the cross, where man had manifested the paroxysm of his wickedness, God manifested his love there. During the time he was crucified there, Jesus absorbed this wickedness, this evil in the hearts of men through his love.

It was on this cross that Jesus died to save all men, those still alive in sin and those who were already dead in sin.
But, « God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. »(Acts of the Apostles 2:24)
What a good news!
« The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus’ resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people. »(Matthew 27:52-53)

Because Jesus shed his blood on the cross to accomplish wonderful redemption for us, we can receive forgiveness and cleansing from our sins.
However, this redemption had a goal: God wanted us to receive His divine life and this is possible thanks to the life-giving aspect of Jesus’ death.

PRAYER:
Lord our God, grant us understanding of the work accomplished on the cross by your son Jesus Christ.

LA CROIX, SYMBOLE DE L’AMOUR DE DIEU

À l’origine, la croix n’est pas une invention de Dieu, c’est une invention des Grecs qui a été par après adoptée par les romains pour punir les malfaiteurs en leur faisant sévèrement souffrir. Mais mystérieusement, notre Dieu s’en servira à Golgotha pour sauver le monde du péché et de la mort éternelle. C’est ainsi que la croix est devenue un symbole de l’amour de Dieu.

« C’est là qu’il fut crucifié, et deux autres avec lui, un de chaque côté, et Jésus au milieu. »(Jean 19:18)

Sur la croix, là où l’homme avait manifesté le paroxysme de sa méchanceté, Dieu y a manifesté son amour. Pendant le temps qu’il était crucifié, Jésus a absorbé cette méchanceté, ce mal du coeur des hommes par son amour.

C’est sur cette croix même que Jésus est mort pour sauver tous les hommes, ceux encore vivants dans le péché et ceux qui étaient déjà morts dans le péché.
Mais, « Dieu l’a ressuscité, en le délivrant des liens de la mort, parce qu’il n’était pas possible qu’il fût retenu par elle. »(Actes des Apôtres 2:24)
Quelle bonne nouvelle!
« Les sépulcres s’ouvrirent, et plusieurs corps des saints qui étaient morts ressuscitèrent. Étant sortis des sépulcres, après la résurrection de Jésus, ils entrèrent dans la ville sainte, et apparurent à un grand nombre de personnes. »(Matthieu 27:52-53)

Du fait que Jésus a versé son sang sur la croix afin d’accomplir une rédemption merveilleuse pour nous, nous pouvons recevoir le pardon et la purification de nos péchés.
Toutefois, cette rédemption avait un objectif: Dieu voulait que nous recevions Sa vie divine et cela est possible grâce à l’aspect de la mort de Jésus qui transmet la vie.

PRIÈRE:
Éternel notre Dieu, donnez-nous de comprendre l’oeuvre accomplie sur la croix par votre fils Jésus-Christ.
C’est dans le nom précieux de Jésus-Christ même que nous prions, Amen.
