The inhabitants of Samaria were experiencing terrible days as the Syrians besieged their city, and food had become very scarce.
All their hopes were cut so that they did not even expect help from God anymore, who nevertheless wanted to come to their rescue.
It was then that the man of God Elisha prophesied:
« Hear the word of the LORD. This is what the LORD says: About this time tomorrow, a seah of flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria. »(2 Kings 7:1)
This prophecy almost sounded too good to be true. It required both the removal of the Syrian blockade and an abundant supply of food that could be brought into the city. Both seemed unlikely.
The king’s officer who was present there, did not believe his ears and retorted to Elisha thus:
« Look, even if the LORD should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen? »
However, because this king’s officer found God’s promise ridiculous, Elisha said to him:
« You will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of it! »(2 Kings 7:2)
We should normally believe any word of God because He is powerful and He does whatever he says.
It is really dangerous to not believe God’s words. If our disbelief prevents us from accepting God’s gift of eternal life, we will one day “see it with our own eyes” but not profit from it! Please do not let that happen to you!
PRAYER:
Our Father who art in heaven, grant us to always believe every word that comes out of your mouth.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
