LOVE AND FORGIVE FOR FREE

When God’s word exhorts us to imitate God, it actually asks us to love and forgive as God does: God freely loves and forgives.

The Bible says in John 3:16 that « God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. »

Who among men, would have asked God to be the first to love us to the point of giving his beloved son?
Nobody. God did it for free because of His love.
Why then do others have to do something to deserve our love?
Why then must others ask us for forgiveness and even insist on deserving our forgiveness?
« Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ. »(Ephesians 2:1-9)
Even though we may think that those who offend us deserve our vengeance, God teaches us, through his love, that they instead deserve our forgiveness.
If we are children of God, we must imitate him by freely loving and forgiving.

PRAYER:
Lord our God, grant us the power to love and forgive freely.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
