MANASSEH AND EPHRAIM, TWO BLESSINGS

Before the years of famine came in Egypt, two sons were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On.

« Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, « It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household. » The second son he named Ephraim and said, « It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering. » »(Genesis 41:51-52)

Manasseh and Ephraim are two Hebrew names that express two important blessings in the life of every man.
Manasseh in Hebrew מנשה, Menasheh, means « God made me forget all my sorrows ».
In heaven, there are blessings that can make us forget all the sorrows of the past.
Joseph had just received a blessing that made him forget or transcend all the pains that his brothers caused him, the passage from Potiphar and his unjust imprisonment.
Ephraim in Hebrew אפרים, mean « I will bear fruits. »
By the name Ephraim, Joseph expressed that he will bear fruits and be comforted in this land where he has known suffering.
Indeed, the family of Ephraim reached the third generation before the death of Joseph (Genesis 50:23). Shuthelah, Beker and Tahan are three sons of Ephraim born in Egypt.
Fertility(fecondity) is therefore a blessing from God that consoles us in the midst of those who despise us, underestimate us or afflict us.
We also need those blessings that make us forget all our sorrows and that enable us to bear fruit and be lifted up in the midst of those who hate and despise us.
May God give us our Manasseh and our Ephraim.

PRAYER:
Our Father who art in heaven, shower us with blessings as you showered your servant Joseph.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
