Paul had been unjustly accused of many evils to the point of being condemned to death.
Just at the moment Paul was being beaten up by people who didn’t even know him, the commander arrived and asked who he was, and what he had done.
It was then that Paul said to the commander in Greek:
« May I say something to you? »(Acts of the Apostles 21:37)
Commander replied:
« Do you speak Greek? Aren’t you the Egyptian who started a revolt and led four thousand terrorists out into the wilderness some time ago? »(Acts 21:37-38)
Paul answered him:
« I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. Please let me speak to the people. »(Acts of the Apostles 21:39)
Paul was a pure Jew speaking the Hebrew language although he also knew how to speak Greek, but had nothing to do with the Egyptians or with the terrorists he was accused of.
He was judged on a false charge and nothing is as painful as being judged and condemned because you are mistaken for someone you are not sincerely.
In reality, those who judge and condemn us do not necessarily know us. Most of the time, they talk about us, criticize us and judge us without even knowing us, but simply because they have heard others speak badly about us, criticize us and judge us.
It is very painful, we must avoid doing it to others.
PRAYER:
Lord our God, grant us that we may never again dare to speak badly about others and to judge them unfairly.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
