CREDIT IS EASY TO GET, BUT HARD TO REPAY

In life, there are times when we all face financial challenges.

When confronted with an emergency, a family need, or an important project, we may seek credit.
A bank may approve a loan.
A friend may lend us money.
A merchant may allow us to pay later for goods received.

Obtaining credit often brings relief.
We rejoice because a door has opened and a solution has been found.

The day the money is received, everything seems easy.
Yet a few weeks or months later, when the repayment date arrives, reality sets in.
What once appeared simple can suddenly become a heavy burden.

That is when integrity is put to the test.

Some begin to avoid their creditors.
Others make promises they never keep.
Still others become offended when they are reminded of their obligations.
Yet anyone who accepts credit also accepts the responsibility that comes with it.

The Bible declares:
“The wicked borrow and do not repay.” (Psalm 37:21)

This verse does not condemn borrowing itself.
Rather, it condemns the refusal to repay what is owed.
God understands financial hardships.
He knows that some circumstances are beyond our control.
Nevertheless, He expects us to act with honesty, humility, and sincerity.
Even when we are unable to repay immediately, we can be transparent, acknowledge our obligation, and do everything within our power to fulfill it.

Credit is built on trust, and when a debt is repaid faithfully, that trust is honored.

Before seeking credit, let us ask ourselves whether we are prepared to carry the responsibility that comes with it.
For it is easier to receive than to give back, easier to borrow than to repay.

As Christians, we are called to reflect God’s character even in the way we handle our finances. Our word should be trustworthy, our commitments should be honored, and our integrity should remain unwavering, even in difficult times.

PRAYER:
Lord, give me an honest and responsible heart.
Help me to honor my commitments and to conduct all my affairs with integrity.
In the name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
