“If you had been of the world, the world would love what is its own. Yet truly, you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world; because of this, the world hates you.” (John 15:19)
A Christian is called to live in the world, but never according to the world’s system.
When Jesus speaks of the « world, » He is referring to a system that is opposed to God—a system where lies are preferred over truth, pride replaces humility, jealousy destroys relationships, corruption is normalized, and everyone seeks their own interests.
To live in this world without belonging to it is to choose to build your life on love, truth, justice, forgiveness, compassion, and holiness.
The question, then, is this: How can we live in such a world without becoming like it?
The Bible teaches us that « our adequacy is from God. » (2 Corinthians 3:5)
The apostle Paul also declared:
“Everything is possible in him who has strengthened me.” (Philippians 4:13)
The One who strengthened Paul is the same Jesus Christ who strengthens us today.
By His grace, He enables us to live in this world without becoming like it or imitating its ways.
Jesus said:
“I am the vine; you are the branches… For without me, you are able to do nothing.” (John 15:5)
As long as we remain connected to Christ, His life transforms ours. We no longer respond to hatred with hatred, lies with lies, or evil with evil. Instead, we reflect the character of Jesus.
A ship is made to sail on the sea, but it sinks when the sea gets into it. In the same way, God has left us in the world to be its light, but He does not want the world to enter our hearts.
Therefore, let us not allow hatred, corruption, pride, or compromise to shape our lives. Let us remain in Christ, walk by His Spirit, and be faithful witnesses of His Kingdom.
The world does not need Christians who look like the world; it needs disciples who look like Jesus.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, guard my heart from the values of this world. Help me remain in Jesus Christ so that my life may reflect Your love, Your truth, and Your holiness.
Make me a light that glorifies You wherever I go.
