Although the lord Jesus encourages us to love one another(John 13:34), we must avoid loving like sinners.
Sinners love those who only love them or those from whom they take advantage.
Yet, Jesus says:
« If you love those who love you, what credit can you expect? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. »(Luke 6:32-34)
Furthermore, the sinners hate those who hate them and repay one wrong with another to those who hurt them.
And yet, the word of God says:
« Never repay one wrong with another, or one abusive word with another; instead, repay with a blessing. That is what you are called to do, so that you inherit a blessing. »(1 Peter 3:9)
And if we look closely, what sinners call LOVE is not the true love that comes from God, it is only emotions that attract or lead them to sin.
« Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. »(1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
Let us love all the people, let’s love them in the truth, let’s love them even if we expect nothing from them, and let’s love them even if they hate us.
PRAYER:
Lord our God, give us strength and courage to not love like the sinners.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
