WHEN SHARING BECOMES A TEST

“Let each of you not consider anything to be your own, but rather to belong to others.” (Philippians 2:4)

Sharing seems easy in theory. Yet, in practice, it often becomes a real test.
A water bill to pay, an electricity bill to settle, common expenses to divide, a property to manage together… and suddenly misunderstandings, frustrations, and even conflicts arise.

Why is sharing so difficult?

The Bible teaches us that quarrels often begin when people seek their own interests first.
James writes:
“Where do wars and contentions among you come from? Is it not from this: from your own desires, which battle within your members?” (James 4:1)

When we focus more on what we should receive than on what we should contribute, sharing becomes a source of dispute. Everyone wants to enjoy the benefits, but responsibilities seem much heavier when they must be shared.

Yet God calls us to justice, honesty, and mutual consideration.
Anyone who benefits from a common resource should also accept his or her share of responsibility.
Ignoring our own obligations while expecting others to fulfill theirs is neither fair nor pleasing to God.

In times of conflict, Abraham provides a remarkable example. When tension arose between his herdsmen and those of Lot, he chose peace rather than confrontation:

“Therefore, Abram said to Lot: « I ask you, let there be no quarrel between me and you, and between my shepherds and your shepherds. For we are brothers.” (Genesis 13:8)

Abraham understood that a relationship is often worth more than a material advantage. Peace can be more valuable than winning an argument.

When dialogue becomes difficult, wisdom sometimes requires seeking the help of a neutral person who can restore justice and understanding. God is a God of order and peace, not of confusion.

Beyond the numbers, the bills, and personal interests, the real challenge lies in the heart. A heart filled with love, humility, and respect will always find a path toward harmony.

Today, let us ask ourselves: Are we only seeking our own rights, or are we also seeking the good of those around us?

Sharing becomes easier when love takes the place of selfishness, when each person accepts his or her responsibilities, and when the grace of God transforms the way we live with others.

PRAYER:
Lord our God,
Give us hearts that are just, humble, and full of love.
Teach us to live in peace with others, to faithfully fulfill our responsibilities, and to seek the common good.
May Your Spirit help us overcome selfishness and walk in truth and peace.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
