The chief priests and scribes had sought a way to put Jesus to death, but had failed because they feared the people.
They find a way to arrest Jesus in the middle of the night on the Mount of Olives.
When they laid hands on him, Jesus said to them:
« Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour–when darkness reigns. »(Luke 22:53)
Indeed, before the hour it is not yet the hour and after the hour, it is no longer the hour.
And when the time comes, nothing can prevent what must happen if it is God who has authorized it.
At this time, though it was during the night, when the power of darkness dominates, God had permitted Jesus to be arrested so that His glory would be manifested in the defeat of the planners of this arrest, through the resurrection.
If it happens that we too fall into the hands or the traps of our enemies, let’s know that it is the hour that it happens and that God has authorized it for his glory.
God authorizes it either so that we are humbled and brought back to repentance, or so that the glory of God manifests itself through the defeat of our enemies.
Either way, we must praise the Lord who has the final say in all situations.
PRAYER:
Our Father who art in heaven, help us to be able to humble ourselves when the time comes to fall into the hands of our enemies to fall into the hands of our enemies.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
