When the leaders of the Philistines planned the assassination of the Nazarene Samson, they had to use Delilah, a woman he loved.
They went to her and said:
* »Cajole him and find out where his great strength comes from, and how we can master him, so that we can bind him and subdue him. In return we shall each give you eleven hundred silver shekels. »*(Judges 16:5)
Having accepted to be an accomplice, Delilah took advantage of Samson’s moments of weakness to tell him:
* »Please tell me where your great strength comes from, and what would be needed to bind and subdue you. »*(Judges 16:6)
In his weakness, Samson ended up revealing his secret.
Then disclosing the truth of the matter, he confided everything to her; he said to her:
* »A razor has never touched my head, because I have been God’s nazirite from my mother’s womb. If my head were shorn, then my power would leave me and I should lose my strength and become like any other man. »*(Judges 16:17)
After having revealed his secret and having been shaved, Samson was thus seized by the Philistines who put out his eyes.
*Each person has his strengths, weaknesses and secrets that he should not reveal to others.*
Those who want to have us, attack us, destroy us or harm us absolutely need to know where our strengths lie, what our strengths and weaknesses are, to get there.
*We must therefore always avoid any weakness that would push us to reveal our secrets.*
PRAYER:
Lord our God, help us to never reveal our secrets to our enemies.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
Amen.
