In all our relationships we can choose, as disciples of Jesus, to believe ourselves to be superior to others or to humbly serve the interests of others.
The Apostle Paul tells us:
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. (Philippians 2:3)
We can learn to give more importance to the needs of others than ours by focusing on the example of Jesus.
He took « a form of servant » and gave himself for us (v. 5-8). When we neglect to give others the value that God bestows on them, His sacrifice in our favor shows us the way, humble and better, to follow.
The joy comes from putting the well-being of the other person before ours.
PRAYER:
Lord our God, put in us the spirit of humility and teach us to give more importance to the needs of others than ours.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray.
