Man has three terrible enemies: the flesh, the world and the devil.
The first enemy of the Christian is his flesh!
The flesh is what characterizes human desires in the world. It designates the will of man, the corrupt Adamic thoughts.
It desires and absorbs all things contrary to the Word of God.
She is opposed to the Spirit to accomplish the pleasures of the world: jealousy, idolatry, fornication, adultery, excess of table, lewdness, hatred, debauchery, rivalries, quarrels…
« For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. »(Galatians 5:17)
Far beyond everything, the flesh which is our will is there to prevent us from pleasing God, from following His commandments and His laws.
« The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. » (Romans 8:7)
If we want to have a good conduct in life and to please God, we must absolutely be able to control and dominate our flesh.
PRAYER:
Our Father who art in heaven, give us power to master and dominate our flesh.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
