If people don’t call us by the names our parents gave us, they call us by names that they stick to us because of our personality and our notoriety, good or bad.
However, by his grace, God can change all those names that people stick to us:
– Simon became Peter, a « column of the primitive church ».
« You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas »(which, when translated, is Peter).(John 1:42)
– Saul of Tarsus, the church persecutor, became the apostle Paul, a church builder.
– Jacob, the deceiver, became Israel the father of the twelve tribes.
« Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome. »(Genesis 32:28)
The names that God gives us bring blessings and express a new destiny or a new life that is good.
And God gives them to us after transforming us.
This is how the one whom everyone called wicked man becomes good by the grace of God,
The one everyone called angry man becomes meek by the grace of God,
He whom everyone called dishonest man becomes honest man by the grace of God, and so on.
Let’s ask God to transform us so that we may have new names.
PRAYER:
Our Father who art in heaven, come into our lives to transform us and give us new names.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
