ENTER INTO YOUR ROOM, SHUT YOUR DOOR

Prayer is one of the greatest privileges God has given to His children. It is a moment of intimate fellowship with our Heavenly Father, a time when the believer opens his heart to God, presents his needs, gives thanks, and listens to His voice.

That is why Jesus gave this simple yet profound instruction:
“When you pray, enter into your room, and having shut the door, pray to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.” (Matthew 6:6)

Before asking God to open the doors of blessing, let us first learn to close the doors that draw us away from Him.

Shutting the door helps us withdraw from distractions, avoid interruptions, and create an atmosphere that is conducive to prayer and reflection. When the door is closed, the noise of the outside world is reduced, and our attention can be focused more fully on God.

In Jesus’ time, some scribes and Pharisees loved to pray in public so that they could be seen and admired by others.
They sought the approval of men more than the presence of God. Jesus condemned this hypocrisy, saying:
« When you pray, you should not be like the hypocrites, who love standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets to pray, so that they may be seen by men. » (Matthew 6:5)

Even today, this temptation still exists.
Some people think that a prayer is more spiritual when it is accompanied by shouting, excessive demonstrations, or loud noise.
Yet God is not impressed by the volume of our voice; He looks at the sincerity of our heart.

Making so much noise that it disturbs neighbors, distracts others, or draws attention to ourselves is not the purpose of prayer. What matters is not that people hear us, but that God hears us.

Spiritually, shutting the door of your room means shutting the door to anything that can pull you away from God during prayer:
– distractions;
– useless thoughts;
– worries that fill the mind;
– the desire for human approval;
– spiritual pride;
– anything that prevents us from focusing on God.

Many people come to prayer with a phone in their hand, their minds occupied by countless concerns and scattered thoughts. Their body is in the place of prayer, but their heart is somewhere else.

Today, enter your room, shut your door, and seek your Father in secret. For it is often in silence, reflection, and intimate fellowship with God that the greatest spiritual victories are born.

PRAYER:
Lord, teach me to seek You with a sincere heart.
Help me shut the door to distractions, pride, and the desire to be seen by others. May my prayer be a moment of true fellowship with You.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
