After Adam and Eve had sinned, they were ashamed and tried to cover themselves by intertwining fig leaves, and when the Lord God visited them, they hid in the bushes. But those intertwining fig leaves couldn’t hide the real problem.
It was then that, to rehabilitate them, God made them clothes.
« The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. »(Genesis 3:21)
There are times that man can cause a scandal in the public square or be caught in the midst of serious sin. And therefore, like any naked person, he is ashamed to appear in public and people marginalize and ignore him.
Hiding or justifying oneself to one’s loved ones does not solve the problem of one’s shame or notoriety. In this case, only God can rehabilitate him, covering « his nudity » or his shame with clothes that impress those who know him and make people forget his ridiculousness.
If it happened to us, to be the subject of a scandal or to do ridiculous things, let’s ask God to make us clothes that cover our shame and our ridiculousness. And God will do it for us, out of His grace, mercy and love and for His glory.
PRAYER:
Our Father who art in heaven, make for us clothes that cover the shame that we have for all the ridiculous things that we have done.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
