THE PLOT AGAINST THE RESURRECTION

On Easter morning, while the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. The priests then consulted with the leaders of the people, and decided together to conceal what had happened.

« When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, « You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble. » So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day. »(Matthew 28:12-15)

So, they had just invented a conspiracy theory that the resurrection is a lie. Now, if Jesus is not resurrected, the Christian faith would be in vain, and we would be reduced to:

1. Living a baseless life
Our faith would be an illusion and without object:
« If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. »(1 Corinthians 15:14)
« And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile. »(1 Corinthians 15:17a)

2. Living a life without forgiveness of our sins
Jesus was delivered up for our sins, and « he was raised was raised to life for our justification. »(Romans 4:25)
If then Christ has not been raised, our faith is futile; we are still in our sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.(Read 1 Corinthians 15:17-18)

3. Living a life without victory
If Jesus rose, he defeated death and evil and that means that we too can overcome evil.
« We are more than conquerors through him who loved us. »(Romans 8:37)
But, if he is not resurrected, we are doomed to live a life without victories over death and all evil.

4. Living a life without hope
The resurrection of Christ announces ours! Without his, the expectation of ours evaporates.
« If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. »(Romans 6:5)

This is the purpose of this conspiracy, to keep us in fear of death and under the dominion of sin and all evil.

PRAYER:
Lord our God, grant us to never take part in this plot against the resurrection of Jesus.
It is in the precious name of your very son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen
