TWO TYPES OF CHILDREN OF GOD

The parable of the prodigal son introduces us to two types of children of God.

These are two beloved children of their father:
The youngest who, in the story, is the prodigal son, returns to his father, after having abandoned him and having moved away from him to go and squander all his property in debauchery.
When he had nothing left, as « he began to be in need »(Luke 15:14), he returned to his father.
The eldest, having seen how the prodigal son was well received, despite what he had done, was jealous and became angry.
He then said to his father:
« Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. »(Luke 15:29)

These two sons showed two regrettable attitudes that we also recognize in certain children of God:
The prodigal son represents the type of materialistic children of God. These come closer to God only when they are in need or when they are in difficulty.
The eldest represents the type of unconscious children of God, because they are unaware that they are heirs of God and that God does not give material goods to his children as they necessarily deserve.

We should not focus on the material goods that God gives to his children, rather we should be aware that everything God has belongs to us and that our inheritance is rather eternal life at his side not perishable goods.

PRAYER:
Lord our God, grant us to be aware that our inheritance is in paradise.
It is in the precious name of your son Jesus Christ that we pray, Amen.
